Why Governments are not the answer

Our democratic governments were a giant leap forward at the time they were implemented but have devolved into plutocracy. The rich have more power and influence and our democratically elected politicians are working in their own best interest, not ours.

Many amazing individuals are working on this front to change our corrupt democratic systems. They are working to get new people elected that will truly represent their constituents best interests and not just their own. Although I'm very grateful these people are working on this front I do not believe this is where our solutions will come from. This post is not critiquing those people, we need everyone's ideas working simultaneously and I am thankful they are in the process of taking back our democracies. But I also believe there is a better way

Our governments are corrupt and we do not have the time to fix them. Even if working perfectly they are not designed to create and implement the massive solutions needed to move our species forward so that we can get along and not destroy the planet we rely on for survival.

Governments were needed because a large group of people we're unable to coordinate collectively in order to move their country forward. Representatives needed to be elected to work on behalf of the whole. Ideally everyone has equal vote and the governmental representatives work on behalf of their constituents making decisions in their best interest on their behalf. This small group of elected representatives is assumed to have information they are working from that is not and can not be available to the masses.

Our current governments, even if not corrupt, are not able to effectively work toward solutions nationally or globally. They are elected for four-year terms which are not long enough to see effective changes for long-term strategies AND too long to keep democracy strong

.

On a national level a government has four years and in this time they have to; dismantle the past administrations roadblocks, implement their own plan, and see positive results in order to get reelected. Meanwhile 4 years is a long time to wait to have your voice heard by voting especially when our politicians are not doing any of the stuff they promised (cause they cant as per above or just won't)

On a global scale our governments get together, spending hundreds of millions of our respective tax dollars to come up with solutions (which themselves are costly) and then nobody is held responsible for those promises and the next administration can come in and change it all wasting everybody's time and money.

Governments by design have to walk a fine line of transparency. In order for their role to exist they have to have information that their constituents don't have so they can make decisions effectively on their behalf. Even if the decisions are actually in the best interest of the people they still have to convince the electorate which costs more time and money. So they work in secret so that they can keep the exclusivity of information then have to pay for that secrecy with advertising campaigns that we we trust less and less these days. If we had access to the information THEY did we could easily be walked through what is in our best interest and not just be told what is.

(Together we can collect and organize info so that WE have better information than any of the current governments have access to but that is a different blog post)

The government although elected by only a portion of their population, must act for the benefit of the ENTIRE population and so there is a lot of disagreement and backlash. No solution is going to be liked by everyone and there will always be vocal oppositions that is not happy no matter what you do.

Our governments are corrupt and even if working perfectly they are not effective. But they are keeping our society running. The roads, hospitals, schools, markets etc are all working adequately (ie not collapsed yet) so they should keep the world running while WE actually fix it.

How do we fix it?

We create a corporation that runs like our governments should run (with pure democracy and full transparency). The corporation is owned equally by all of its members and membership is voluntary and open to everyone. We create the infrastructure we need to live independent, abundant lives by working and funding it together bypassing our governments and working directly with all the world’s citizens who want to cocreate a better world for themselves (and by extension the world)

Our board of directors (government) is elected annually but with liquid democracy the delegated votes they individually hold shift between 0-100% of the power depending on how many members have delegated their vote to each BOD for that meeting. All meetings are streamed live to our members and all information that is available to the board is available to everyone. The board does not rule the company or their members, they serve the membership, of which they are a part.

Not everyone can sit on the board (there will only be 5 positions) but any of the remaining members can be as involved as they want to be in any of the departments. They have access to the information and tools to make this possible (as we create these tools). For instance they have full access to all the financial information and can suggest ways to lower costs or make more money.

We are going to make mistakes, learn from them, then improve the system so those mistakes happen less and less. We are going to encourage truth by allowing dissenting voices and opinions without letting them take over the entire conversation. Everyone can have their ideas heard in small groups with the best ideas being upvoted so that more people can read/hear them.

These ideas are jumping off points. Any piece that does not work (ie turns out a year is too short so we switch to 4 year terms) can be easily fixed so we can make changes rapidly by looking at what is working and allowing everyone to help make the system better.

When we show that a group of diverse humans can effectively work together and create an amazing product we are not going to allow our local governments to run in the corrupt and ineffective ways they currently do. Especially when some of the products we make will return the power to the people by giving them trustworthy and usable information on their politicians.

We effectively fix our governments by bypassing them and showing them how it's done.
