It sucks to be the person who does not trust in a system that almost everyone says is trustworthy.
Whenever anyone says the line “ask your doctor” I cringe.
Doctors know what they were taught and are not able to keep up on all the latest information that they require to do their job right. They are human and fallible like the rest of us but often their ego does not let them admit this. They do not know nutrition or understand the body as an ecosystem they do not know how to remain or obtain real health. They do not know chemistry or cellular biology. They only know what they were taught; how to diagnose and prescribe.
The scientific system itself, that is responsible for innovation, is as political and corrupt as any other industry. What gets funding and published is not the best science or for the best interest of the public. Decision are made to make profit for shareholders now and in the future. When money comes into play, incentives change and the neutral space that science should hold is destroyed.
I am a canary. Our current world is killing me slowly. I am in pain and exhausted all the time and there is no medical reason why. The medical community offers no answers and those that try often do more harm than good (wanting to try all the things AGAIN that have not worked in the past).
What I need is a way to access the medical papers myself to understand the research and a way to discuss the actual condition(s) I have with people who also have those conditions. I need to be able to tailor a life that works for me and have numbers that back it up, to show my doctors (current and future) I want help figuring out the medical mystery that is my body not more roadblocks and stress that hinders the process.
I want the science graded not based on if the current community LIKES the outcome but on how GOOD the science is. I want to be able to understand the information in scientific papers that are relevant to me.
For every article we can publish the information on the science (methods used) using a unbiased algorithm (only cares about the science not who did the science) to grade the science. We can see what studies concluded what but we can also see patterns between studies; all the studies out of this country are on one side, all the studies funded by for profit companies found their products to be safe etc.
I do not trust our current system without proof. I want proof (the actual article that was published) for the safety of every chemical on our shelves (not just the token “it must be safe if it is on our selves).
I want a science app that helps everyday people have access to the science they need.
Every article is read, discussed summarized and has data collected on it (who did the study, who funded the study, contact information for data requests, published where etc).
For each ailment we can have every article that discusses treatment options and compare the outcomes and cost etc of those treatments so we are on a more even playing field with doctors and pharmaceutical companies and no patient is left with experts steering them towards costly dangerous medication and surgeries because it is what THIS doctor knows or because it is what this doctor will profit from.
We can collect our own data on treatments we have done (western and alternative) and collectively we will be able to see what works for people like us. If there are groupings of people that have similar chemistry, genes etc then what works for one is more likely to work for another within the same group. We do not currently have access to data that would help us find such groups or access to our own health data. A for profit company doing this would get into trouble but a collective doing it for ourselves completely voluntary can create something unique and powerful for the benefit of all who use it.
Doctors would benefit from having access to this knowledge as well. They can see what hundreds of patients with their patients condition have tried and what works they can see the big picture of treatment options and more easily see what should be tried (most likely to succeed least costly etc)
I want to create the following technology
Science app: Explain, grade and collect data on each and every scientific paper
Big picture app: brainstorm every question we would want to know about the topic (breast cancer, climate change, vaccines) then look at what has been answered and what has not been. See the big picture on what has been published on a topic.
Medical data app: Track your numbers, diagnosis, etc to better understand our own health and collective health in groups we belong to. We can design our own device and provide it at cost to our members to track fitness, sleep, diet, etc and give them access to their data and patterns.
Eventually we will be able to fund, run and publish our own studies to discover the answers to the questions our current system does not want answered (how to prevent cancer, maintain a health life etc). Scientists from all over the world will be able to collaborate on solutions and more efficiently create true innovation for the purpose of health not for the profit of shareholders.
We need to take science back from for profit system. We can do it together.
